Privacy Considerations

Two pieces of legislation policy regulate how student mental health records are shared to ensure that schools and their collaborating partners respect and protect the confidentiality of students students and their families while providing necessary care.

Learn more about the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) Privacy Rule that protects the privacy of patient health information (mainly relating to student mental health records) and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) that protects the privacy of public students’ personal education records.
